Torticollis

Wry neck, or torticollis, is a rotated and tilted neck. The top of the head generally tilts to one side while the chin tilts to the other side.

Symptoms include:

  • limited range of motion of the head

  • headache (adults)

  • neck pain

  • shoulder that is higher than the other

  • stiffness of the neck muscles

  • swelling of the neck muscles (possibly present at birth)

  • preferred breastfeeding on one side

Causes often are the position of the baby in the womb, or traumatic birth.
